Resolution to Authorize the Interim President and Provost to Lead a Campus-wide Process to Review and Refine Winthrop’s Mission Statement

WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees annually reaffirms the Mission Statement of the University as it is a component of the state’s Agency Head Salary Commission evaluation process; and

WHEREAS, a mission statement serves as the defining declaration of the nature and intellectual character of the university; and

WHEREAS, a well-articulated and focused mission statement is necessary to guide the purpose and future direction of Winthrop University; and

WHEREAS, in order to ensure the mission statement continues to reflect the values, beliefs, and vision of the University, in addition to the annual reaffirmation, the mission statement will be reviewed at least once every five years;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Winthrop University Board of Trustees directs and authorizes Interim President George W. Hynd and Provost Adrienne McCormick over the following eight months to conduct a campus-wide process to evaluate and revise, as necessary, the mission statement in order to provide a solid foundation for future growth of Winthrop University; and

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the current version of the Mission Statement will continue to serve Winthrop well until such time as the campus-wide review is complete.
