RESOLUTION HONORING AND APPROVING WINTHROP UNIVERSITY AND YORK TECHANICAL COLLEGE TRANSFER PARTNERSHIP

WHEREAS, Winthrop University provides a wide range of academic programs serving the people of South Carolina, and in particular the north central region of the state; and  

WHEREAS, Winthrop University established policies aligning with Proviso 117.152 (CHE: Transfer of Student Credit) which guarantees students who have earned an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from a public two-year institution of higher learning shall receive a minimum of sixty transfer credit hours at a public four-year college or university and shall be given a junior status at the college or university. Course prerequisites and minimum credit requirements for awarding degrees shall still apply. Implementation of the provisions shall be effective beginning June 1, 2022; and 

WHEREAS, the 21st century economy increasingly requires a workforce of trained individuals who have attained baccalaureate degrees, and furthermore, increasing the educational attainment of its residents is a goal of the State of South Carolina; and 

WHEREAS, the proposed Winthrop University – York Technical College Transfer Partnership advances the missions of both institutions to support and increase degree attainment for South Carolina residents seeking credentials in higher education; 

THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF WINTHROP UNIVERSITY that this resolution serves to acknowledge the importance of past, present, and future collaborations between Winthrop University and York Technical College to advance student success at both institutions; and 

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Winthrop University – York Technical College Transfer Partnership and Full Degree Transfer policy, as attached and described herein, be established.
