WHEREAS, Winthrop University provides a wide range of academic programs serving the people of South Carolina, and in particular the north central region of the state, and
WHEREAS, Winthrop University has offered the Bachelor of Arts in Music focusing on a classical music tradition, and
WHEREAS, more students are requesting training in jazz, pop, and other contemporary genres, and for training in music production, and
WHEREAS, the Winthrop University College of Visual and Performing Arts and the Department of Music have developed a new concentration in Commercial Music to meet the needs of our students and prospective students, and
WHEREAS, the proposed new concentration is consistent with Winthrop University's Mission Statement wherein the University seeks to provide “personalized and challenging undergraduate, graduate, and continuing professional education programs of national caliber within a context dedicated to public service to the State of South Carolina,”
THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF WINTHROP UNIVERSITY that the new concentration in Commercial Music for the Bachelor of Arts in Music be established.
