WHEREAS pursuant to S.C. Code Ann. §59–125–1, et. seq., the Board of Trustees of Winthrop University is created and established as a body corporate for the purpose of effectuating the educational mission of Winthrop University.
WHEREAS pursuant to the Winthrop University Board of Trustees Bylaws art. VIII,
§1, it is the Board of Trustees’ duty to evaluate the performance of the university
president and make recommendations regarding performance assessments to the appropriate
entities.
WHEREAS President Edward A. Serna has led Winthrop University with distinction over the past year, during which time he completed the hiring of a new provost, oversaw the development of a strategic plan, and effectively represented Winthrop University in the regional community.
WHEREAS the campus community, including students, faculty, and staff, has positively responded to President Serna’s leadership, affirming his role in advancing the university’s mission and outreach.
WHEREAS the Board of Trustees has performed its annual evaluation of President Edward A. Serna and has concluded that his performance exceeds expectations based on the outlined criteria.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that on April 25, 2024, the Winthrop University Board of Trustees hereby adopts this resolution in recognition of President Edward A. Serna’s exemplary leadership and performance, which demonstrates that he has attained the performance rating of “Exceeds Expectations”.
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary to the Board of Trustees shall certify that the Winthrop University Board of Trustees approved this resolution on April 25, 2024, in a regular meeting scheduled by the Winthrop University Board of Trustees. Such resolution shall be maintained and publicly posted by the Secretary of the Board at the time and in the manner required by law.
