Am I required to use Winthrop's catering service?

Yes — Sodexo is Winthrop's exclusive catering company for all events held on campus. You are allowed to bring your own specialty cake for an event.

Are there specific times of the year when campus venues are unavailable?

Yes — Winthrop University does not contract external events during times when the University is closed, or during campus-wide events such as commencement, convocation, and large Admissions events. E-mail us at universityevents@winthrop.edu to inquire about specific dates.

Are there any dates that are not available to book an event?

Can alcoholic beverages be served during the event?
(or) What is your alcohol policy?

Yes, alcohol may be served in approved venues on campus. For a beer and wine only bar, Sodexo must provide the alcohol and bartenders for your event. For a full bar, you will supply the liquor, and Sodexo must provide the beer, wine, mixers, and bartenders.

How do I set up an appointment to view a facility?

E-mail us at universityevents@winthrop.edu. Appointments are generally available Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend appointments are available on a limited basis.

May I take professional portraits/pictures on campus?

Yes. Please review our portrait guidelines to ensure the best possible portrait experience on campus.

What is included in the facility rental fee?

  • Use of the venue for four hours of event time
  • Early access to the venue for setup - dependent upon availability and event requirements
  • Full cleaning of venue before and after the event
  • One-time setup of your layout (Winthrop inventory items only)
  • Use of Winthrop tables and chairs - quantity dependent upon availability
  • Onsite University Events staff member for the duration of the event

How do I book my event?

To start the reservation process, submit a reservation inquiry to tell us more about your event. Someone from our office will contact you to confirm availability and provide pricing information.

What sort of A/V capabilities are available?

A/V capabilities vary for each venue. To see individual venue capabilities, please review our event and meeting venues page.

What is your event cancellation policy?

If your event is cancelled 30 or more days prior to the event date, the University will refund 50% of the facility deposit. If your event is cancelled 29 days or less prior to the event date, no monies are returned.

How do I pay for my event?

Payment can be made by certified check or money order made payable to Winthrop University; Visa, MasterCard, Discover; or cash. There will be a 2% surcharge for all credit and debit cards. Personal checks are not accepted.
