Accounting, Finance, & Economics

About the Department

The Accounting, Finance, and Economics Department prepares students for a variety of jobs in fields with high demand, extraordinary earning potential, and ample opportunities for career advancement. Winthrop’s location close to the second largest financial hub in the country makes our programs popular options in the College of Business and Technology. Our students develop technical, analytical, and professional communication skills through rigorous coursework, practical experiences, and involvement with student organizations.

The Department consists of 14 faculty members who are dedicated to teaching and research excellence. Thirteen of our faculty hold doctoral degrees and many hold professional certifications and have extensive industry experience in their areas of expertise. The Department distinguishes itself through a strong placement record with some of the top accounting, finance, and banking firms in the world and by providing opportunities to obtain student scholarships, engage in experiential learning, and participate in career fairs (e.g., “Meet the Firms”) and networking events.
