Human Development and Family Studies is a major available to students pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in the Richard W. Riley College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences at Winthrop University. This degree prepares graduates for human and consumer service agencies and organizations where children and families are the focus.
The ProgramThe B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies is a nationally recognized program by the National Council on Family Relations. Additionally, program completers are eligible to receive the Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) national credential. This degree program opens the door to a wide variety of career opportunities. Students choose to specialize in the following: child and adolescent studies, child and family services, or a minor in gerontology.
In Human Development and Family Studies, students have opportunities for internship placements at a variety of agencies, organizations, and corporations. Students complete at least 300 hours of work experience to fulfill the internship I and internship II requirements.
Human Development and Family Studies majors have the opportunity during the sophomore year to complete a semester abroad. Please work with your advisor well in advance to ensure you are meeting the program of study for your degree area.
