Faculty and Staff Alumni Lunch (R)

As a thank you for their service to the university, all 200+ Winthrop faculty and staff who are also Winthrop alumni are invited to a Faculty and Staff Alumni Luncheon, courtesy of the Winthrop Alumni AssociationRegister before Friday, Oct. 25. 60-Year Anniversary of Integration at Winthrop

1-4:30 p.m. | Louise Pettus Archives & Special Collections

Cynthia Plair Roddey ’67, Delores Johnson Hurt ’68, Arnetta Gladden Mackey ’67 and Sue Frances Meriwether Steed ’67 were the pioneers African-American women to quietly integrate Winthrop. Join us as we celebrate them for paving the way for integration here at Winthrop during the 60-year Anniversary of Integration. Stop by the Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections to see the exhibition celebrating this momentous time at Winthrop.


College of Arts and Sciences Encore Distinguished Lectures (R)

College of Arts and Sciences' emeritus professors will speak on topics of contemporary cultural significance to current students, faculty, staff and alumni. Campus Art Tour (R)

Campus Tours with Student Ambassador (R)

Class of 1974 50-Year Reunion Reception and Class Dinner (R)

The Class of 1974 will celebrate its 50-year golden reunion with a class reunion reception followed by a class dinner in Richardson Ballroom, located in the DiGiorgio Campus Center.


Class Reunion Welcome Reception (R)

6-9 p.m. | Morgan-Holcombe Alumni Center at the Stewart House

The Classes of 2019, 2014, 2009, 2004, 1999, 1994, 1989, 1984, 1979, 1969, 1964, 1959, 1954 and 1949 are invited to the Class Reunion Welcome Reception at the Morgan-Holcombe Alumni Center at the Stewart House to enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres with fellow alumni celebrating a reunion. 


Homecoming Happy Hour ($) (R)

6 p.m. | Slow Play Brewing

Raise a glass to your Winthrop friends at the Homecoming Happy Hour at Slow Play Brewing! Grab some delicious grub from the Twisted Eats food truck from 4-9 p.m. The brewery will be open until 11 p.m.

The Department of Political Science, Philosophy, Religion and Legal Studies, Department of Social Work, Department of Sociology, Criminology and Anthropology, the Department of World Languages and Cultures will gather from 6-8 p.m. Slow Play Brewing is owned by three Winthrop alumni, Ben Lee ’05, Matt Poston ’11 and Ron Fasick ’02. President's Circle Fall Reception (R)

The President’s Circle recognizes annual donors whose total giving reaches $1,000 or more each fiscal year. Members lead the Winthrop community in promoting a culture of giving to have a profound impact on the university and its students. Membership in the President’s Circle is based on qualifying gifts to the Winthrop University Foundation between July 1-June 30 of the preceding year and renewable annually. This event is invitation only for members of the President’s Circle.

 

25-Year Anniversary of Close Scholars Program

6 p.m. | Founders Dairy Barn at the Anne Springs Close Greenway

This year the Close Scholars Program is celebrating 25 years of awarded student support with an invitation only event.

Established in 1998 with generous gifts from the Springs Close Foundation, the Close Scholars Program supports the commitment of the Springs Close Foundation to give back to the communities of York, Lancaster, and Chester counties, as well as Winthrop's vision of enrolling "an achievement-oriented, culturally diverse and socially responsible student body." Alumni Reunion Brunch (R)

The Classes of 2019, 2014, 2009, 2004, 1999, 1994, 1989, 1984, 1979, 1974, 1969, 1964, 1959, 1954 and 1949 are invited to the Alumni Reunion Brunch to celebrate their milestone reunion! Join us in McBryde Hall for coffee, cocktails, Winthrop memorabilia from the Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections and a special screening of the 1919 Winthrop silent film, "Day by Day".

Each reunion class will take a commemorative photo that will be mailed as a keepsake. Each class photo time is noted below and on the class letter.

"Day by Day" 1919 Film (R) 

9:30-10:45 a.m. | Tuttle Dining Room, located in McBryde Hall

A special screening of the 1919 silent film, "Day by Day," which was used as a recruitment video. Gina Price White ’83, director of Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections, will narrate the movie and answer questions about the film. This event is open to anyone who is attending Homecoming and Reunion Weekend. If you plan to attend the screening, please register once registration opens. 

Alumni Choir Concert
10 a.m. | Barnes Recital Hall

The Winthrop Alumni Choir and the Winthrop University Chorale will present a Homecoming concert in Barnes Recital Hall on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. The concert is free, open to the public and will include pieces sung by the Winthrop Alumni Choir and Winthrop Chorale. Alumni who would like to participate in the Winthrop Alumni Choir can register by e-mailing Jeremy Mims, director of choral activities, at mimsj@winthrop.edu. Rehearsal will be at 8:30 a.m. followed by the concert at 10 a.m. E-mail Jeremy Mims, director of choral activities, at mimsj@winthrop.edu for more information.
