The Health Professions Connection (HPC) comprises faculty representatives from Winthrop University departments and programs that serve students interested in pursuing health professions. The mission of the organization is to better communicate among our programs and coordinate our efforts to enhance the educational experiences and academic advising for students interested in pursuing health professions, as well as to promote interactions between the health providers in our community and Winthrop’s programs.
According to U.S. News & World Report, “a health science major studies health and disease in the human body. Students in this major are prepared to work in a variety of health-related careers and settings and to pursue graduate-level education. Health science majors typically value quality of health care, health promotion and disease prevention.” HPC programs equip students with a solid educational background in basic and health-related programs of study while also providing the foundational courses required for admission to graduate-level clinical and non-clinical health programs. These programs include, but are not limited to, physical therapy, occupational therapy, public health, clinical/behavioral health, athletic training/exercise science, nutrition and dietetics, medical social work, healthcare management, and other health-related professions.
Health Professions Connection faculty membership spans three colleges at Winthrop University: College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences, and the College of Business and Technology. Departments that are actively involved in Health Professions Connection are:
