COVID-19 Information for Employees

The following guidance outlines the actions that employees must take if they are diagnosed with COVID-19, suspect they might have COVID-19, or are deemed a close contact of a COVID-19 positive individual. These actions, based on current CDC guidance, are intended to protect the health and safety of the Winthrop campus and should not be considered medical guidance.

      • Stay home and contact your supervisor. Supervisors must maintain the confidentiality of the impacted employee.
      • Contact your primary care physician.
      • Separate yourself from other individuals, including those in your home.
      • Monitor your symptoms.
      • Take a COVID-19 test.
      • Wear a high-quality mask around others.
      • Isolate at home while you are sick.
      • You may return to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
        • Your symptoms are improving overall, AND
        • You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
      • After isolation, take precautions for the next 5 days, and take additional steps to prevent the spread of the illness, including hand washing/hygiene, masks, physical distancing, and/or testing when you will be around other people indoors.
      • Refer to CDC guidance for more detailed instructions.
      • If you are at high risk for severe illness, contact your healthcare provider.
      • Employees, notify your supervisor and enter appropriate sick leave.
      • While there are no longer specific isolation mandates when exposed to an individual with COVID or other respiratory illness, please see the CDC guidance for preventing respiratory viruses.
      • Employees are asked to be respectful of coworkers, especially when your work area may not allow for you to physically distance yourself from others, and take appropriate precautions to lessen the spread of the illness.
