Winthrop Board of Trustees Re-elects Officers

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Chairman Glenn McCall and Vice Chairwoman Kathy Bigham are both Rock Hill residents. They will serve one-year terms beginning July 1.

  • Members also recognized the service of Imani Belton, the outgoing chair of the Council of Student Leaders and student body representative to the board.

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — Members of the Winthrop University Board of Trustees unanimously re-elected Chairman Glenn McCall to lead the university’s governing body. Kathy Bigham was re-elected as vice chair. The two were selected for leadership for the third consecutive year during the board’s June 19 meeting.

Both are Rock Hill residents and will serve one-year terms beginning July 1.

A retired senior vice president of Bank of America, McCall led the consumer customer behavior analysis group. He was first appointed to the Winthrop board in 2011 as the education superintendent designee. He was then legislatively appointed to an at-large seat in 2014. McCall also is chair of the budget committee for the Republican National Committee and is co-chair for the Committee on Arrangements for the 2020 GOP convention.

As chair, McCall is an ex-officio member to the Winthrop University Foundation Board of Directors.

Bigham, who retired as president of Thursdays Too restaurant in Rock Hill, is a 1973 Winthrop graduate. First appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2003 as the governor's designee, she resigned from that position in 2006 and successfully ran for a legislatively elected seat in the same year. In the past 14 years, Bigham has served as chair, vice chair and committee chair. 

In other board action, members:

* Recognized the service of Imani Belton, the outgoing chair of the Council of Student Leaders and student body representative to the board.

Prior to the meeting, the board also allowed time for the Palmetto Council of the Boy Scouts of America to recognize Winthrop History Professor Edward Lee with its Distinguished Citizenship Award. The award was to be presented at an event March 31, but the event was cancelled due to COVID-19. Read more about Lee and the award.
