Dear Winthrop Community:

I am excited to share with you that after many months of hard work and valuable input from various constituencies, we are close to launching our new strategic plan, Winthrop: United in Excellence. This new plan will help guide us for the next few years as we set our sights on accomplishing all that this robust plan outlines. Currently, our VPs are actively working on the implementation portion, taking BRG’s extensive recommendations and forming our specific year-over-year objectives, tactics and key performance indicators. I encourage you to read an overview of the new strategic plan on pages 2-3 of this Winthrop Magazine edition. I am excited to put this plan into action!

I also want to encourage you to read about other interesting features in this edition, including:

-Our students’ participation in creating public art projects for both on- and off-campus purposes;
-Fascinating and surprising finds in the Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections;
-The origin of Winthrop’s beloved alma mater;
-Compelling profiles on alumnus Owen Reid ‘09, a former student-athlete who is now touring the world with his baseball consulting business, and Outstanding Junior Professor Jennifer Dixon-McKnight, who will soon have a book coming out on the 1960s Charleston Hospital Workers’ strike and who has revived the Association of Ebonites organization; and
-The latest campus happenings, alumni news and university advancement updates.
