The Master of Arts in history is one of the oldest master’s degree programs offered by Winthrop University. This program prepares students for careers in such fields as teaching, law, library
and archival work and journalism, as well as in areas less directly related to the
study of history including fields in business and industry.
The history faculty at Winthrop University is comprised of scholarly, talented, energetic,
and friendly individuals who are devoted to student learning and promoting the study
of history.

Graduate Assistantships
Students have the opportunity to work part-time in the Department of History and other departments on campus as graduate assistants and associates.
Learning Outcomes
Study evolving social movements, societal issues from local to global, and the interdependence of the family of nations expressed in foreign policy development and implementation.
Archives on Campus
Students have easy access to Winthrop's Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections, which collects and preserves records relating to the history of Winthrop University and South Carolina.
You will develop, with an assigned advisor, an individual course of study which meets the requirements for the degree and your objectives. The program requires completion of 30 hours with a two course thesis preparation sequence.

Official transcript(s) from all institutions attended for undergraduate and graduate coursework. Transcripts must be sent directly to Winthrop's Graduate Studies office from the issuing institution(s).
Evidence of a satisfactory score on the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination; score of 150 or higher on the verbal section.
