In addition to meeting Winthrop University general admission requirements for all graduate students, the applicant for admission to a graduate program in music education should:
Hold a baccalaureate degree with a major in music education, or its equivalent, from an accredited institution. Students whose undergraduate degree does not carry certification in music should enroll in the Master of Arts in Teaching degree program through the Richard W. Riley College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences.
Have an overall undergraduate grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Pass an applied entrance audition. Students who do not pass the applied entrance audition will study at the undergraduate level. Graduate-level study must be attained by the end of the first semester.
The diagnostic placement examinations should be taken prior to the semester of initial enrollment in the graduate program.
