General Information


The Master of Science in Sport and Fitness Administration provides advanced degree seeking students with a quality sport and fitness administration education. The program prepares students to assume leadership positions in various sport and fitness venues in both facility and personnel management and program development. Graduates are prepared to direct sport and fitness programs in the private and public sectors. The program consists of core courses that provide students with a background in programming, research design and current issues and trends in sport and fitness. All students are required to complete a practicum experience in sport or fitness programming or with a research thesis. An elective may be selected to meet the needs of graduate candidate's interest in sport or fitness programming. A maximum of nine (9) semester hours of graduate work may be transferred from another accredited institution.

The Master of Science in Sport and Fitness Administration program is designed to fill a unique niche. The degree's focus is on the nonprofit sector of sport and fitness and relies upon the expertise of faculty from a wide range of academic disciplines. These disciplines include coaching, health, physical education, exercise science, and sport management. Graduates pursue careers in programming for environments such as coaching, athletic director (AD), recreation, YMCA/YWCAs, fitness centers, health and wellness centers, sport/event marketing/management, geriatric activity centers, middle/high school and university athletics.
