The Master of Arts in Teaching Accelerated Pathway

Applicants to the MAT, Accelerated Pathway must have completed an undergraduate degree in the discipline with the Educational Studies minor or the BS in Educational Studies major. The baccalaureate degree from Winthrop University must have been completed within one year of beginning the program.

Accelerated MAT Program Deadline: February 15 for summer admission.

This program only admits students one time per year, in the summer.

Note: All admission materials must be received by the Graduate Studies office before an application will be reviewed.

• The online Graduate Studies application with the non-refundable application fee.

• Official transcript(s) from all institutions attended for undergraduate and graduate coursework. Transcripts must be sent directly to Winthrop's Graduate Studies office from the issuing institution(s). These official undergraduate transcript(s) will allow the department to confirm all content requirements have been completed.

• Undergraduate major in art, biology, chemistry, dance, educational studies, English, French, history, mathematics, political science, psychology, Spanish, or theatre; 

• Educational Studies minor or BS in Educational Studies major. Consult the "minors" section of the current undergraduate catalog for more details.

• Minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA.

• Passing score on Praxis Subject Assessment content area exam.

• Meet all additional requirements based on the content area.

• Admission to Teacher Education.

• Students who have ever been removed from or received an unsatisfactory or failing grade in a school field placement or internship must provide a statement about the circumstances to be considered as part of the application. This statement must address the areas of concern from the field placement or internship, goals for the upcoming field experiences and internship, should they be admitted, and steps candidates will take to meet the established goals.”
