Lydia CoffeyLydia is an interdisciplinary artist with extensive technical and creative writing experience. Her background gives her the ability to anticipate the specific needs of any audience. Her educational mission is to transform students into active participants in their learning and in societal problems as their commitment to continual, individual progress is the key to social progress overall. Her core values regarding teaching and tutoring are the following: education should further the self, the process is more important than the product, and collaboration is necessary. By equipping her students with metacognitive and critical thinking skills in the classroom, she aims to empower each generation to prioritize self-enhancement and awareness as they become collaborators in the betterment of society. She has two undergraduate degrees in art and English. She is working in the Writing Center while she pursues a graduate degree in English education. She enjoys exploring trends and patterns. She is passionate about identifying anomalies and revisiting the effect of childhood on narratives. She is interested in juxtapositions and man made creations whether physical or conceptual.
Amber Nelson Hello! My name is Amber Nelson and I am an English graduate student here at Winthrop University. Some random facts about me are I am obsessed with my dog Jackson and I am an avid crocheter but my skills are mediocre at best. I have a passion for English studies and writing and am looking forward to tutoring my fellow writers! I hope to foster connections with students and to help them improve and develop useful writing skills that lead to masterful, impactful pieces of literature! I have a special interest in literary criticism and creative nonfiction writing but enjoy all aspects of academic discourse! I can't wait to meet students and help them be their best writer!
Eleanor RogersHi! My name is Eleanor and I am a graduate assistant pursuing my MA in English. I’m the Assistant Director of the Writing Center and am so excited to help our writers develop their own voice and techniques to improve their long term writing. I’ve been lucky enough to attend Winthrop for all four years of undergrad and went through the BA to MA program for this extra year. I love psychoanalytic and feminist theories, fostering connections between writers and their work, and brainstorming with our writers! I love to read and knit (though I don’t have much time for either one) and am an avid music enjoyer and coffee addict. My music and book tastes are expansive and eclectic, so they’re a bit hard to encapsulate in one sentence with only a few artists. I love David Bowie, Hozier, and Florence and the Machine to name a few! My favorite books (and this is painful to narrow down) are The Awakening by Kate Chopin and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab! I’m looking forward to working with you and I hope to help you become a better writer!
Bri SharpHello! I'm Bri Sharp, and I am a graduate student here at Winthrop. I got my B.A. in English with a minor in Psychology and am now pursuing an M.A. in English. I am particularly interested in 19th and 20th-century American Lit. and finding ways to link psychology and literature. I know how hard writing can be and how nerve-wracking it may feel to have someone read over your work, so I am excited to help students work through the writing process while hopefully making them feel at ease and gain confidence in their writing skills.
Emmalyne EshlemanHi! My name is Emmalynne. I’m a junior with majors in English and Spanish and minors in psychology and women and gender studies. I read a lot and enjoy writing analytical papers. I love working in the Writing Center because we get to see people move from their earliest ideas to polished papers. Hopefully, we help them to move and write confidently!
Caitlin LewisHi folks! My name is Caitlin Lewis, pronouns they/he. I'm a junior undergrad here at Winthrop, with a major in English and a minor in Mass Communication. A few of my hobbies are working out and buying too many coloring books. Writing is my life's passion; I love watching the words flow onto the paper and give shape to my ideas. Paige LillibridgeHello everyone! My name is Paige Lillibridge, and I am an undergraduate student here at Winthrop University. I am an English major with minors in Spanish, psychology, and educational studies. Writing is my greatest passion, so I am very excited to be working as a tutor in the writing center this semester to help others become better writers themselves! Writing is a craft, it is something that takes practice, patience, and dedication. I want to help people truly appreciate and understand the craft of writing. As such, I am most looking forward to helping students understand the writing process and how they can work to be confident, successful writers. I hope to give guidance that can be taken and applied outside of the writing center. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with students and look forward to a great semester of tutoring!
Jaden LemmondsHey howdy hey! My name is Jaden Lemmonds, and I'm a senior English major with minors in History and Criminal Justice. I'm in the accelerated B.A.-M.A. program and am excited to continue my studies here at Winthrop next year. While I am equipped to handle and tutor all kinds of writing, I specialize in literary analysis and research, and love helping my fellow students brainstorm, research, and write their essays to the best of their ability! I enjoy reading, writing, and watching scary movies (just not in the dark). I currently also work at the Museum of York County in an informal educator position, teaching kids and adults alike about the natural history of South Carolina. I intend to pursue a PHD after graduating with my Master's in English and would love to teach literature at the collegiate level someday. Gwen PregnallHello! My name is Gwen, and I am a sophomore English major with minors in creative writing and Spanish. I love to read and consume stories in any medium. Writing has always been one of my favorite activities, and I cannot wait to help and encourage my fellow students with their own writing. In the writing center, I hope to foster a positive outlook on writing because I know how hard writing can be. I know how frightening it can be to ask for and be open to help, especially with something as personal as one's words. Because of this, I want to be a mindful soundboard to bounce ideas off of, help students recognize the merits of their own voice, and encourage students through kindness and genuine interest to be curious, comfortable, and open in regards to their writing and writing process.
Christa YoungHi! My name is Christa Young, and I am an English major with a minor in professional writing! I love reading literary fiction, classics, and poetry. Creative writing, specifically poetry, has been a passion of mine since middle school. My favorite books are The Most of It by Mary Ruefle and Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison.My goal as a tutor is to give you the vocabulary and tools for the writing process that you can take with you to assignments and projects in the future. Most importantly though, I am a peer who’s excited to hear your ideas and help you stay confident during your writing process. I hope to brainstorm with you, navigate the requirements of your assignments, and explore topics that are interesting and relevant to you whenever possible.
