Core Writing Courses

General Information

Effective communication is one of the four University Level Competencies all Winthrop students must achieve. Students take three General Education Core Classes to help them achieve this competency: WRIT 101: Introduction to Academic Discourse; HMXP 102: The Human Experience; and CRTW 201: Critical Reading, Thinking, and Writing. Students are also required to take an Intensive Writing Course and an Oral Intensive Course before they graduate; a number of courses across campus have these designations, but many students take WRIT 465: Preparation of Oral and Written Reports to fulfill both requirements. The following links provide access to materials for these specific courses.

To request an override into CRTW 201, WRIT 101, or WRIT 465, please fill out the Department of English's Override Request Form. To request an override into HMXP 102, please fill out the HMXP Override Form.
