The Creative Writing Specialization

Students seeking a Creative Writing Specialization can take many creative writing courses under the Department of English's new English major. Of the 30 credit hours required for the English major, creative writing specialists can take half of their courses in creative writing, with options to take more elective courses. We also offer an 18-credit-hour minor in creative writing.

These creative writing courses will be complemented by reading and research courses in literature taught by Winthrop's expert English faculty members. We offer courses from medieval literature all the way to contemporary literature courses that focus on the short story, resistance literature, adolescent literature, Harry Potter, and more. The Department of English also offers courses in professional and digital writing.
