Undergraduate Research

One of the greatest strengths of the department lies in the many diverse opportunities for students to engage in national-caliber undergraduate research. Working closely with faculty, students are able to participate in a range of projects that guide students through the entire research process from developing the hypothesis and methods, to the collection of data, and the dissemination of results at professional meetings and through peer reviewed publications. These learning opportunities provide students valuable skills and experiences to prepare them for the next level of their careers. Faculty in this department support student research through funding from competitive national grants such as the NSF, NIH and other major funding sources. The culture of student-faculty collaboration in this Department creates an unmatched opportunity for students to be immersed in quality research at the undergraduate level.

Students can participate in research at any time during their college experience. Many students spend the summers in residence participating in the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE).
