Students who graduate from Winthrop with a degree in chemistry have a strong record of finding jobs in science-related fields upon graduation. For the Spring 2021 graduating class, 86% of chemistry majors that sought employment found a job within six months of graduation.
Chemistry majors graduating from Winthrop have a strong record of acceptance into chemistry, biochemistry, and other graduate programs. Over the past ten years, 34 Ph.D. degrees have been awarded to Winthrop Chemistry graduates from universities that include Duke, Dartmouth, Notre Dame, Clemson, Wake Forest, and USC.
Students who graduate with a chemistry degree from Winthrop get accepted into pharmacy, medical, dental, and veterinary schools. Over the past ten years, 20 Winthrop Chemistry graduates have earned doctrates in the health professions from universities that include MUSC, USC, UNC, and UGA.
The Sims Science Building, which houses the Department of Chemistry, Physics, Geology and the Environment is a 60,000 sq.ft. facility that includes lab spaces dedicated to analytic, organic, inorganic, physical, and biochemistry research. Engagement in research enables students to learn important lab techniques, develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, and experience the excitement of scientific discovery.
