Political Science

The Major

The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science requires each student to complete 30-36 semester hours (10-12 courses) in political science. Students are required to take the introductory course in American government (PLSC 201) Scope & Methods (PLSC 350), the Political Science Senior Capstone (PLSC 490), and three credit hours in experiential learning, which might include a hands-on learning course already being taken in the degree program, an internship, or an undergraduate research experience. Students are able to choose one course from from each of the major subfields in the discipline: (1) American Government, (2) Comparative Politics and International Relations, (3) Public Policy and Public Administration, and (4) Political Theory. The remaining hours of the major may be selected from any of the above fields.
