Master of Business Administration

MBA-Accounting Emphasis

The MBA-Accounting Emphasis program includes 33 semester hours of required graduate courses including seven core courses, three business electives, and one accounting elective.  The program provides the additional course work that students need to sit for the CPA exam and become licensed as a CPA*. The MBA-Accounting Emphasis program provides students with an excellent graduate business education that includes a variety of general business topics in addition to the advanced accounting subjects.

*Exact requirements to sit for the CPA exam and to become licensed as a CPA vary by state. Visit the Board of Accountancy in the state in which you intend to practice to get the most up-to-date and accurate information.

The MBA-Accounting Advantage

Our alumni and their employers report that they value the Winthrop MBA-Accounting degree because of the business administration skills our graduates learn.  Unlike a Master of Science in Accountancy, which focuses solely on accounting subjects, the MBA-Accounting degree gives our alumni knowledge of strategic management, organizational behavior, marketing, and other key topics that contribute to business success.

Graduates of our MBA-Accounting program pursue careers at PWCDeloitteErnst&YoungKPMG, and Grant Thornton; as well as local CPA firms, the S.C. state auditor's office, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Internal Revenue Service, large banks, and other well-known private and public organizations.
