NetAPT: Eligibility

NetAPT is currently open to the specific certification areas listed below as requested by partner districts. Additional information on eligibility requirements is provided by field. NOTE: Individuals previously enrolled in a student teaching experience or another alternative certification program are NOT eligible for NetAPT.

    Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a minimum of 15 hours in English language arts content.

    Minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA.

    Passing scores on the SC-required Praxis Subject Area Assessment for middle level English.

    Degree in mathematics, engineering, statistics, or closely related field with a minimum of 15 hours of mathematics coursework from a regionally accredited university.

    Minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA.

    Passing scores on the SC-required Praxis Subject Area Assessment for middle level mathematics. 

    Degree in biology, chemistry, physics, or closely related field with coursework representing at least 15 hours total that include coursework in all of the following areas - biology, chemistry, and physics (including at least one lab) from a regionally accredited university.

    Minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA.

    Passing scores on the SC-required Praxis Subject Area Assessment for middle level science.

    Degree in history or closely related field with a minimum of 15 hours coursework representing history (U.S. and world), government, and social sciences from a regionally accredited university.

    Minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA.

    Passing scores on the SC-required Praxis Subject Area Assessment for middle level social studies.

    Degree in biology or chemistry, biomedical or chemical engineering, biomechanical engineering, biochemical engineering, or closely related field with a minimum of 18 hours of science coursework representing biology, chemistry, and physics (including at least two labs) from a regionally accredited university.

    Minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA.

    Passing scores on the SC-required Praxis Subject Area Assessment for secondary science (5436).

    Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a minimum of 18 hours in English content, and a minimum of 12 hours of English coursework above 299.

    Minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA.

    Passing scores on the SC-required Praxis Subject Area Assessment for secondary English.

    Degree in biology, biomedical engineering, biomechanical engineering, biochemical engineering, or closely related field with a minimum of 18 hours of biology coursework from a regionally accredited university. Minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA. Passing scores on the SC required Praxis Subject Area Assessment for secondary biology.

    Degree in mathematics, engineering, statistics, or closely related field with a minimum of 18 hours of mathematics coursework, including a calculus sequence, from a regionally accredited university.

    Minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA.

    Passing scores on the SC-required Praxis Subject Area Assessment for secondary mathematics. 

    Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.

    Minimum 2.75 undergraduate GPA.

    Passing scores on the SC-required Praxis Subject Area Assessment for special education multi-categorical.

    Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S.  with a major emphasis in the content area (for native speaker applications, a postsecondary degree equivalent to a bachelor’s degree or higher in the U.S. and proficiency in all modes of the English language).

    Minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA.

    Passing scores on the SC-required Praxis Subject Area Assessment for either French or Spanish.

Testing Note: Visit the SC Department of Education Certification Assessments page for additional details on subject area exams. Interested participants are NOT required to pass the Principles of Learning and Teaching exam to start NetAPT.
