Student Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students

Serving our Eagles who serve

helicopterWelcome to the Winthrop family, and thank you for your service to our country. As a Purple Heart and Yellow Ribbon designated university, Winthrop and the University College Academic Advising are here to help you successfully transition from military life to civilian life. Our goal is to support you in your journey from boots to books.  Additionally, for our students who are currently serving, balancing the multiple commitments of classes and service may result in some unique challenges and aspects to your Winthrop experience.

Winthrop offers a variety of services and opportunities for our student veterans and other military-affiliated students, and we encourage you to utilize these services. Here are some helpful links to get you started:

Student Veterans Center

The Center is located on the garden level of Bancroft Hall.  This space is designated for use by active members of the organization, and also for our active duty, National Guard/Reservist, and veteran students.  It features space for studying, socializing, and engagement activities.  Access to the Center can be gained by your student ID card.  Students with questions about ID access should contact Kinyata Brown, Associate Dean for Student Diversity, Engagement, and Inclusive Excellence.

Purple Heart Parking

There are two designated parking spaces for purple heart recipients on campus.  These parking spots are located outside McBryde Hall and Dinkins Hall.  Any student who is a purple heart recipient may park in either of these spots provided they have the following on their car:

1. A current/valid Winthrop parking decal (Commuter, Resident or Disabled)
               AND
2.  A state issued "Purple Heart" license plate

Please note, that if the Purple Heart spots are full, you must park in a spot designated by your WU permit.
