Cultural Events

Frequently Asked Questions

As an academic requirement, all undergraduate degree-seeking students are required to attend a certain number of Cultural Events in order to graduate. First-Time Freshmen are required to attend a total of 18 Cultural Events by the end of their final semester. (This number is adjusted for Transfer Students based on their total number of approved transfer credits.) Students are highly encouraged to attend 2-3 events per semester to stay on track for graduation.

To see how many Cultural Events you are required to attend, check your Degree Works worksheet in Wingspan.

To receive credit for attending an event, students must have their Winthrop ID cards scanned both before and after the event. Students who lose or misplace their IDs can ask the Cultural Event Monitor for an attendance slip prior to the start of the event. For more information, view the attendance policy.

Students that participate in a Winthrop Study Abroad program will automatically receive 3 Cultural Event credits. Credit will appear on a student's record after they return. To petition for additional Cultural Event credit, please refer to our petition process page.

It takes approximately 3-4 business days following an event for credit to be posted on Wingspan and Degree Works. For Cultural Events held via Zoom, please expect 5 business days of processing time for your credit to be posted on Wingspan and Degree Works. We appreciate your patience.

To see which Cultural Events you have received credit for attending, log in to Wingspan. On the homepage, under the 'Channels' section, click on 'Cultural Events' and your credit award history will be displayed. If your credit does not appear within one business week, please e-mail culturalevents@winthrop.edu for assistance.
