Amanda Cavin attended Winthrop University as a post-traditional student, graduating in 2015 with a BS in Early Childhood Education and again in 2017 with two MEds, one in Literacy and one in Special Education Intervention. She was a McNair Scholar while at Winthrop and later served as the program’s graduate assistant and then programming assistant. She taught in the public school system briefly before becoming the director of the Eagle STEM Scholars Program. In her free time she enjoys hanging out with her four children, loving on her two dogs, and playing board and card games.
Cliff Harris

Cliff Harris is a new faculty member at Winthrop, joining the Chemistry department in July 2011 as a visiting assistant professor, where he currently teaches Chemistry 105. He also serves as the assistant director of the Eagle STEM Scholars Program. Cliff Harris received his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he was a member of the prestigious Meyerhoff scholarship program. Afterwards, he attended the University of Notre Dame, where he received his PhD in Chemistry, with a research focus on electron transfer in semiconductor assemblies for solar energy assemblies.

Taegan Smith is the Student Assistant for the Eagle STEM Scholars Program. Taegan is receiving her undergraduate degree from Winthrop University in Biology with an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2024. After graduation, Taegan plans to pursue a Master’s in Public Health and enter the field of medical device sales. During her free time, she enjoys reading, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.
