Scholar Experience

Summer Bridge Program Information

The Eagle STEM Summer Bridge program provides an academic and transitional experience for recent high school graduates who have been accepted to Winthrop University and the Eagle STEM Scholars program for the fall semester. The six-week program is designed to assist underrepresented and/or first generation freshman students in making a smooth transition to college. This program equips incoming Eagle STEM scholars with the time management, critical thinking, and social skills required to succeed in biology, chemistry, mathematics, or computer science degree tracks. Eagle STEM Summer Bridge students enroll in summer courses, which will then apply toward their baccalaureate degree.

In addition to the academic benefits, the Eagle STEM Summer Bridge program sponsors social, civic engagement, leadership, and culturally enriching activities. It offers a balance of academics, student life, and student support services which provide its participants with a foundation before entering college in the fall semester. This program is a critical element of the Eagle STEM Scholars program.

Participation

Eagle STEM Summer Bridge students are considered early admitted college freshmen. The students are expected to comply with the Winthrop University Student Handbook 2016-17 ("Student Handbook"), including the Student Code of Conduct. Eagle STEM Summer Bridge students should review and be familiar with the guidelines in the Student Handbook and with Winthrop University residential living guidelines.
