About the Biology Department

With more than 400 students majoring in biology, students are assured of a wide selection of courses. The major offers students a broad foundation in the biological sciences. A prime focus of the program is on acquiring experience in your future field. 

The department offers excellent experiential learning opportunities through undergraduate research and internships that are important if you want to matriculate into graduate programs, health profession programs, biology-related jobs, etc. You can conduct undergraduate research for academic credit with faculty mentors in well-equipped research labs and at regional field sites. You can also earn up to three hours of internship credit towards your biology degree. Internships are available at a variety of institutions and corporations in Rock Hill and surrounding communities.

Students must complete a total of 67 semester hours of biology-related courses. Also available are an 18-hour biology minor and Secondary Teacher Certification in conjunction with the Teacher Education Program in our College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences.
