World Languages and Cultures

The Major

Through foreign language study, students acquire the vitally important communication skills that are needed in an increasingly interconnected world.

With courses in French, German, Spanish, and occasionally other languages including Italian, Chinese, and American Sign Language, Winthrop's Department of World Languages and Cultures offers students the opportunity to expand their horizons. Students receive balanced instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, in addition to having the chance to study the culture, history, and literature of the countries where the language being studied is spoken.
