Lynn Hammond

Lynn Dabney Hammond graduated from Winthrop College in 1981 with a degree in Physical Education. She immediately took a position as a K-6 teacher at Buford Elementary for the Lancaster County School District. In 1983, Lynn took some time off to be a fulltime Mom to Sara, Emily, and Will.

From 1985 through 1991, Lynn became a pre-school teacher at First Baptist Church in Lancaster. In 1992, she joined the USC-Lancaster Gregory Wellness Center staff as an instructor for senior fitness classes and an array of swim classes. In 1994, Lynn Hammond discovered her true passionhealth education and began as Health Educator/Health Promotion and Physical Activity Specialist for DHEC in the Catawba Public Health District. In 2000, she moved to Columbia to become the South Carolina Schools Director for the Department of Health and Environmental Control. This lead to her current position as SC Healthy Schools Director for the SC Department of Education. In this role, Ms. Hammond has provided invaluable leadership for Health Education in South Carolina.

Lynn Hammond's professional involvement includes the Society of Directors of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, American Association for Health Education, American School Health Association, and SCAHPERD. She has served as President of the SC Association for the Advancement of Health Education and is currently chair elect of the Leadership Council for AAHPERD. She received the DHEC Rookie Heath Educator of the Year in 1995 and was honored by SCAAHE in 2006. SCAAHE acknowledged Lynn's contribution to health education by giving her the Outstanding Contribution to Health Education Award at the SCAHPERD convention.

In addition to her professional involvement, Lynn has been active with the SC Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, the SC Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity, SC Coalition for Obesity, Healthy People 2010 Interagency Council, the Partners for Health for Children, the American Heart Association, and numerous others. As part of her community service, Lynn has written numerous funding proposals, made a multitude of presentations, and planned numerous conferences.
