Graduated from Winthrop College in 1987. He is the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach of Marlboro County High School. He received the Region Five 4-A Coach of the Year in 1998 and 1999, High School Sports Report's South Carolina Football Coach of the Year, South Carolina ACA Football Coach of the Year, WBTV Doug Shaw Memorial Coach of the Year for 1998, and was named by CBS Early Show and USA Today as one of the top ten most caring coaches in 2000.
Dr. Boyd received an Ed.D. in Child in Youth Studies from Nova Southeastern University and a Masters in Arts in Sport Science from the United States Sports Academy. He currently serves as President of the South Carolina Athletic Administrators' Association. In addition, he serves on the South Carolina Football Coaches' Association Board of Directors, is the Region 3 State Director of Strength Coaches' Association, and is a member of the Bennettsville Rotary Club.
Dr. Boyd is the father of Katie and Susan and is the husband of the former Leigh Sherer of York, SC.
