Mass Communication

Facilities

The Department offers all the technology you need to prepare for communication careers.

Our computer labs are equipped with writing, graphics, design and production software for news writing, editing and converged media content, as well as public relations and advertising work. Both Mac labs are equipped with the Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and Adobe Premiere.

Over the past few years the television studio has gone digital. A fully equipped digital broadcast studio and control room and video/audio edit bays assist hands-on training for Winthrop Close-Up, the student produced news magazine. Equipment upgrades include an Echo Lab video switcher, Mackie audio mixer, and a Chyron character generator. Computers are used for video playback, teleprompter and graphics.

The department opened the J. William Click Converged Media Laboratory in 2015. The lab is located on Stewart Avenue in the Parker Building. The Click lab facilitates producing packages in appropriate media and formats (television, radio, newspaper, magazine, Web, slideshows, Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc.) as part of the new integrated mass communication curriculum.
