Career Assessments
Learning about your interests, skills, values, and personality is part of the college
experience as well foundational to the career exploration process. Career assessments are a great way to support academic and career exploration and to gain a better understanding of personal attributes that may lead to greater career
satisfaction. The CDI offers the STRONG Interest Inventory and Myers Briggs Type Indicator career assessments to Winthrop students and alumni; read below to learn more!
- You must first schedule a Career Coaching appointment to discuss your goals and what you hope
to learn
- If the assessment is part of a class assignment, your faculty member will provide
specific instructions
- During the appointment, the Career Coach will recommend which assessment(s) - if any
- will best support your goals and will provide you with instructions to purchase the assessment(s) that you will complete
- After your purchase, the Career Coach will send you instructions on how to complete
the assessment(s)
- You must schedule a Results Interpretation appointment (Strong or MBTI) to discuss
your assessment with a Coach; each assessment requires an individual 60-minute appointment
STRONG Interest Inventory
- Provides robust insight into your interests, so you can consider potential careers,
educational pathways, and the world of work.
- Receive data on your strength of interest in six General Occupational Themes. Built
on psychologist John Holland’s theory, it’s backed by more than 80 years of research
into how people of similar interests are employed, and what motivates individuals
in the workplace.
- Gain a better understanding of personal descriptors, academic interests, leisure activities,
and career motivators.
- Provides detailed information on academic and occupational interest areas.
- Includes specific suggestions on preferred work environments.
AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE STRONG INTEREST INVENTORY, YOU MUST MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
TO RECEIVE YOUR RESULTS.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
- The MBTI is a tool to enrich people’s understanding of themselves and others.
- Explores preferred work tasks and work environments, as well as most popular and least
popular occupations, for any type.
- Offers strategies for improving job satisfaction.
- Explains how MBTI preferences affect what you may like about a given career.
- Helps you understand behavior and personality preferences and gives you insight into
communication habits.
- Uses O*NET™ classifications for easy research and follow-up (O*NET is the primary
source of occupational information in the U.S.)
AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR, YOU MUST MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO RECEIVE YOUR RESULTS.
