Alan grew up in Asheville, NC. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Physics from Wake Forest University, and a Master’s of Divinity from Southeastern Seminary. He is a Certified Public Manager in North Carolina. He taught physics at NC State University, and Chemistry at Anne Arundel Community College. He worked in marketing research in Winston-Salem, NC, and in institutional research at Anne Arundel Community College in Annapolis, MD before coming to Winthrop in 2010. He likes making Excel pivot tables, linked databases, and data reports that are easy to understand. He also enjoys making things (such as a swing-set, rocking chair, electric go-kart, solar death-ray, Van de Graaff generator, etc.) with his children Landon and Delaney. He is married to Allison Davis – a guidance counselor in Fort Mill.
