Lisa E. Johnson began her career as an elementary school teacher in Raleigh, North Carolina. After receiving a master's degree in elementary education and mathematics, Dr. Johnson pursued and was awarded National Board certification as a Middle Childhood Generalist. In 2002, Dr. Johnson enrolled in a doctorate program at North Carolina State University to study curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on supervision and leadership. After earning a Ph.D., Dr. Johnson came to Winthrop University as a faculty member in the Center for Pedagogy. She has taught Foundations in Education, Instructional Technology, Core Issues in Education, and Reflective Practice. Dr. Johnson uses her experiences as a classroom teacher to guide her work as a university supervisor with senior-year interns. Dr. Johnson moved into an administrative role in 2009 as Senior Associate to the Dean focusing on graduate programs, grants and research, and faculty development. After writing and being awarded a $7.5 million Teacher Quality Partnership grant, Dr. Johnson served the grant full-time as the NetSCOPE Project Director. As Associate Dean, Director of the Jim and Sue Rex Institute for Educational Renewal and Partnerships, and Chair of the Education Core Department, Dr. Johnson worked with university faculty, teacher candidates, and school district partners to promote collaborative professional learning and development.
