After earning a bachelor and master's degree from Winthrop, she taught in the public and private school sector for 23 years before coming home to Winthrop University to help train the next generation of teachers.

During those 23 years, Tamara continued to pursue professional knowledge and grow in her field by pursuing National Board Certification and attending local and state conferences. After certifying, She has devoted part of her summers to score National Board portfolios for other teachers seeking the certification. In 2014, she began the process of becoming an edTPA evaluator and then eventually a scoring supervisor for the project. She has presented on these topics at local and state conferences to help others going through the process of certification. In 2019, Tamara was voted the SCAHPERD middle school PE teacher of the year.

Tamara has been married to her husband Mike for 27 years and they have two daughters, one who is in the process of becoming an English teacher and one still in high school who desires to be an engineer in the future. Tamara loves spending time with her family and going to Disney World with them!
