Kavin Ming is a Professor of Literacy and the chair of the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy. In 2008, Dr. Ming began her tenure at Winthrop University, serving as the program director for the M.Ed. in Literacy program until summer 2018. Her higher education career started at Edison Community College where she earned an A.A. degree in Business Administration. She went on to Florida State University where she earned a B.A. in English and a B.S. and M.S. in Special Education. Dr. Ming earned her Ed.D. in Special Education from Florida Atlantic University. She has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in literacy, general and special education, classroom management, and assessment. Her research interests include: improving the educational outcomes of students at risk for reading failure, incorporating literacy in content area instruction, using multisensory strategies in reading development, and fostering culturally responsive classrooms and school communities. Her scholarly endeavors have been published in special and general education journals, and she has presented at local, state, national, and international conferences. Dr. Ming believes that once teachers are equipped with the right tools through effective training, they will feel empowered to make a difference in the lives of the students with whom they will work.
